Renoir's Invitation to a Party
In the summer of 1880, friends and associates of French impressionist painter Pierre Auguste Renoir assembled at the Restaurant Fournaise on an island in the Seine, outside Paris for a luncheon. Renoir's now-famous painting Luncheon of the Boating Party immortalizes that perfect occassion when good friends gets together to eat, and talk.
