A Quick & Dirty FAQ for LEGO Minfigures Collections
Q: How accurate is this FAQ?
A: I wrote this today, 31 March 2014. Some of the distribution numbers are a little off, especially for the later sets, but I tried to be as accurate as I could. In the words of Shawn Spencer, "Suck it!!"
Q: How many sets (or series) are there so far?
A: To date (March 2014) there are 12 sets. (Series 1 to 12)
Q: How many minifigs are there in each series?
A: 16 different minifigs
Q: How many packets in each box?
A: 30 packets or 60 packets (2 sizes)
Q: What's the rarity of each minifig?
A: A sealed box of 30 packets will get you at least one complete (16 different minifigs) set with a lot of doubles and some triples. A box of 60 packets will get you 2 complete sets, a butt-load of doubles, a lot of triples and quads and even multiples of 5 or 6.
Q: So how rare is rare?
A: Generally, in there are Commons, Uncommons and Rares in each series. In a box of 60, there are 3 commons, 6 uncommons and 7 rares. In other words, 5 pcs of each common, 4 pcs of each uncommon, 3 pcs of each rare. (5X3 + 4X6 + 3X7 = 60) If you are lucky, each box of 60 packets *should* get you 3 complete sets. But I am not holding my breath.
Q: If I want to get a full set, should I buy a full box?
A: The 30 packet box seems to be the best bet, if you can find it. And only if it is UNOPENED. Do not buy from open boxes, the merchant would already have scanned it and removed all the rares. Grrr.
