Avalon
Directed by a Japanese : Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor)
Screenplay by Neil Gaiman (Neil Gaiman! Have I ever mentioned that I have touched His Greatness' hand before?)
Cast of Polish actors : Malgorzata Foremniak, Wladyslaw Kowalski, Jerzy Gudejko, Dariusz Biskupski
Made a year after David Cronenberg's eXistenZ, Avalon is a dark and surreal movie where improvished people play a game called Avalon for fun and profit. In many dream-like sequences, the heroine plays in a FPS game, where players are gunned down in John Woo slow-mo shoot outs. Like a cross between "A Better Tommorrow" - the movie, and "Counter-strike" - that infernal FPS game, I cringe and await the inevitable, "FIRE IN THE HOLE! GO GO GO!".
