There was a bomb scare at Holland Village yesterday. According to news reports, it was a hoax. And that there were no bombs found there at all. Today, Streats warned that people found sending SMS about the bomb in Holland Village will be fined $50000 or jailed 7 years.
In a flurry of frenetic SMSing, I received
1) warnings to stay clear of Holland Village,
2) reminders that the warnings came from reliable sources,
3) the news/warning come from sources at least 2 degrees away,
4) more reminders that sending SMS of these nature will get us all jailed and fined.
And most recently, an SMS from a reliable source informs Wala Wala in Holland Village is closed!
Am I now an accomplice to a mass hysteria sweeping through Singapore? The hysteria fueled by wanton SMSing? The same hysteria the government is trying to stop with threats of massive fines and long jail terms?
