Google Art Project The Ambassadors
Standing in the cold gallery a few years ago, I spent hours examining the detail on this painting, and marvelled at all the nifty instruments on the table behind. Moving up as close as the guards allowed me, I let the colours and clarity of the painting overwhelm me. With every deep breath, I could smell the paint and history behind this painting.
Now I can do that in the comfort of my home.
Except without the intoxicating smell.
Small price to pay.
Google Art Project has squeezed the majesty that is The Ambassadors into cyberspace, allowing viewers incredible zoom levels, right down to the tiny cracks in the paint.
There are three skulls and a crucifix in this painting. Can you find them?
