+food+ Snails in Hanoi

Highway 4
Branch at Old Quarter, nearest to Melia Hotel.

Take a taxi (Meilinh taxis only) there and back. Don't waste time walking around in Hanoi.

NỘM ĐU ĐỦ BÒ KHÔ / Papaya Salad with Dried Beef (58,000 VND)
This is pretty good, anything with Vietnamese dried beef cannot go wrong.

NỘM BƯỞI QUÊ / Fresh Pomelo Salad (65,000 VND)
Disappointing. With two of my most hated food: bean sprouts and carrot, this had to be.

NEM NƯỚNG KIỂU XA LỘ4 / Highway4-style grilled Pork Spring Rolls (105,000 VND)
Do-it-yourself paper rice spring rolls with tiny savoury pork meatballs, soft and fluffy rice noodles, fresh basil, mint and a slight vinegary dipping sauce.

ỐC NẤU ĐẬU PHỤ CHUỐI XANH / Freshwater Snails cooked with Tofu and Green Banana (125,000 VND)
Hearty stew, tangy and savoury. It was perfect with a bowl of rice noodles.

Extreme close-up. See the snails?

Cat fish Spring Rolls (84,000 VND)
The dipping sauce here was FANTASTIC. Like a strange fusion of oyster sauce and wasabe. Strangely addictive.

PHỞ CUỐN / Rice Noodle Rolls with Shrimp (56,000 VND)
So light and crisp. Almost good, if not for the carrot bits.
