The Best Laksa in Singapore

This store started selling Laksa at Sungei Road in 1956. (Laksa, by the way, is NOT a Singaporean invention, neither is Hainanese Chicken Rice.)

Still using the traditional charcoal fire stove, and keeping the price low at SGD$2 per serving. The Laksa is NOT overly creamy or cloyingly rich with coconut cream. Served in a bowl, rice noodles are covered with generous ground dried shrimp in the gravy. Topped with big, juicy, luscious cockles, this Laksa is the best in Singapore.

They later moved to a food centre around the area, with more and more Laksa lovers going to them.

Envious of their success, the landlord of the food centre kicked them out a couple of years ago and took up selling their own laksa in the original place. While keeping the signboard of the original hawkers and using the same operational set-up.

For the unattentive, this dastardly deed might have passed unnoticed.

Nice huh?

The original store then moved to a new location. Still selling the same Laksa, delicious creamy, dried prawn curry gravy, luscious and HUGE cockles over rice noodles.

This is Singapore's Best Laksa, Sungei Road Laksa. (Also known as The Kelantan Road Laksa, not the awful Katong Laksa.)

"Best", or else its just not good enough for Singaporeans.
